Development and Security: Challenges and (In)coherences

30-minute dialogue with a speaker specialising in the topic. In the current context of shrinking civic and democratic space, the EU reaffirmed its unconditional support for democracy, human rights and good governance worldwide, confirming its central role in international fora. As global challenges continue to increase and in complexity (the effects of climate change, migratory movements; natural disasters; maritime security, regional conflicts, trafficking, terrorism, radicalisation......) and given the pressure on economic and financial resources, a coherent approach that maximises the use of the most relevant instruments is increasingly strong. Providing a concrete response to the root of the problems, evidenced by the causes of poverty as one of the main causes of conflict, providing sustainable responses to support poverty elimination policies should be a concern of the EU when defining the external security agenda. A concern that needs to be made even more evident, for example, on arms sales issues.
