Event report
The Declaration on the Conference on the Future of Europe Slovakia has been a full member of the European Union for 17 years. Our place in the Union is our free choice. It is an expression of the desire for freedom and democracy, economic development and the will to manage our society on the basis of the rule of law. The European Union is still today the best place for a successful, prosperous and secure Slovakia. 1) Today we are launching the Conference on the Future of Europe in the European Union. It opens up new space and offers opportunities for a frank, open and critical debate on how we see its future and our place in it. 2) The Conference on the Future of Europe is a unique opportunity to say what life we want to create in the Union for us and future generations. The conference comes in a difficult time. The pandemic is a test for everyone. However, it is also an opportunity to renew and strengthen the Union. Decisions on how to do this must reflect the voice of citizens. 3) In addition to discussing the future, we must continue to pursue common objectives that will improve the quality of life of all our citizens. Above all, the sustainable development of the economy, the single market without barriers or a stable common currency. It is also about how we will jointly respond to the challenges posed by climate change, migration, the spread of disinformation, instability and conflicts on the international scene. 4) We want to bring the Conference on the Future of Europe to our regions, cities, municipalities and communities. We invite all citizens to participate in this conference and to express their views on what is important to them in the European Union. 5) The European Union is a daily part of our lives, it is our existential space. The Union can only be what we want to have ourselves. It is time, as citizens, to take this opportunity together. It’s about our future. Bratislava, 9 May 2021
