Event report available
The Blei Strategic Forum and the Centre for Europe’s Future are invited to a round table entitled: Translating into the future, Act III: Enlargement of the EU and developing relations with the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood. *To fill capacity (within constraints), the debate will be streamed live on Jable Castle, Grajska Road 1, 1234 Mengeš, while other participants will be able to follow it via the Internet (Zoom Platform, live-stream will take place on the Facebook profile of the BSF). The possibility of a live view will be determined according to the chronological order of incoming registrations. Participants who will be able to attend the debate live will be informed 48 hours before the event at the e-mail address. This year’s Blei Strategic Forum will be dedicated to the future of Europe and reflects the desire and need to discuss the most pressing problems of our time and how the European Union should respond to them. The recent launch of the Conference on the Future of Europe confirms this. However, the debate on the future of Europe must also cover the future of enlargement to the Western Balkans and to the southern and eastern neighbourhoods, which are of strategic importance to the EU, as it expands the influence of countries whose interests, values and norms differ significantly from those of the EU. We have sufficient ambition and wisdom to accelerate the enlargement process and move towards a common goal – the economic, democratic and social transformation of the region? How will we integrate the views of the Western Balkans into the Conference on the Future of Europe? At the same time, we forget too quickly the importance of the immediate neighbourhood for ensuring the peace and security of the EU. The sequence of recent crises – pandemics, migration and declining economies – has fully exposed the EU’s reluctance to deal with them and the shortcomings of ad-hoc solutions. What will or should be the role of neighbourhood issues at the Conference on the Future of Europe? How can Europe become more active in addressing the most pressing problems of the neighbourhood? The following will take part in the debate on these issues: Dr Valentin Inzko, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Lojze Peterle, former MEP Dr. Igor Senčar, State Secretary for Coordination of International and EU Affairs Dr. Aleš Maver, publicist, translator and Professor Katja Geršak, Executive Director of the Centre for European Future Moderator: Peter Grk, Secretary-General of the Blean Strategic Forum The dialogue will take place in Slovenian and will be snowy.

Event report
Report “Uverting to the Future”, Act III: Enlargement of the EU and developing relations with the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood In the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe, the Bled Strategic Forum organised a series of round tables in cooperation with the European Future Centre. The latter was the third in a row, this time under the title: “Enlarge the EU and develop relations with the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood”. The discussion between the panelists took place live at Jablje Castle, where 20 guests were invited, in addition to the organisers who attended the debate on the scene. All other interested parties were invited and invited, due to the epidemiological situation, to view the conversation via a live video, which was broadcast on the official Facebook page of the Bled Strategic Forum. The live streaming video is available at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/BledStrategicForum/videos/1451051678594907 195 views were detected via Facebook (includes anyone who opened a video for more than 9 seconds). The profile of viewers who have connected via the link cannot be identified. Invited participants were foreign ambassadors to Slovenia. The discussion took place in a relaxed atmosphere and discussed the current geostrategic challenges of the EU. They focused on the challenges of EU enlargement to the Western Balkan countries and jointly sought solutions that would allow for a faster and more effective enlargement process. Panelists presented their views on the topic and finally asked for other guests at the site to join the discussion as well as participants who joined the discussion via live recording. The panellists agreed on the urgent need to set a concept and to define a strategy for EU enlargement, otherwise the Western Balkan countries would fall under the influence of other competing interests. In conclusion, all panellists agreed that the EU’s accession to the EU of the countries of the Thanksgiving Balkans is crucial.Related Ideas
