Event report
Students of the 6th grade were invited from the Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstetten, Lower Austria. After discussions in small groups, the young people debated in a panel discussion with Abg. Petra Steger and MEP Roman Haider. Results: • We find that the establishment of so-called transit zones is a very ambitious project and we ask ourselves how the infrastructure should be in this respect — which states are responsible? Or are there EU officials from the individual Member States responsible for the process? How are they trained and ensures that countries at the EU’s external borders, such as Greece or Italy, are not solely responsible or financially responsible. • In the planned screening procedures, we ask ourselves how personal rights, e.g. data protection, should be guaranteed. • We also ask ourselves how individual procedures are to be made possible by digitisation, among other things. • We see a problem when there is no personal advice or instruction on the remedies. • There are increasing numbers of refugees and asylum applications due to environmental disasters. We have a very bad climate policy and it will definitely continue to deteriorate as a result of climate change, and as a result there will be even more migrants, we think. For example, the situation in the southern countries will deteriorate and there will be more refugees, solely because of this. In climate policy, more action should be taken or more changes to prevent and prevent. • What is obvious would be to solve the problems on the ground. Build fair trade relations over longer periods of time and promote these countries economically and maintain relations. This should not be done with war-promoting products, such as weapons, but with products that help people to rebuild the country. This includes knowledge transfer and not just material products and the whole thing must be ecologically acceptable. • We believe that interpreters should be employed at the borders in order to support migrants and help them to submit a correct application and to provide them with appropriate information. — see Parliament’s correspondence: https://iwww.parlament.gv.at/PAKT/PR/JAHR_2022/PK0097/index.shtml
