Raising Voices: Testimonies by those seeking sanctuary in Europe (Theme: Women on the move)

For World Refugee Week, join Europe Must Act, Samos Advocacy Collective, IHA, Minority Rights Group, and others for two evenings of films and panel debates centring the voices of people who are seeking sanctuary in Europe. The events will culminate in the first public discussion of new research into camp conditions on Samos, undertaken by displaced people who live there.
The EU and Europe’s governments pass laws and make policies about displaced people – but far too often, the displaced communities most affected by those policies are completely ignored in the decision-making process.
For World Refugee Week, Europe Must Act is joining grassroots groups across Europe to centre the voices of those seeking sanctuary here. Over two nights, our Raising Voices project will screen short testimonies by refugees and asylum seekers, sharing their experiences in their own words. The screenings will be followed by panel discussions with displaced people, activists and MEPs. We believe that decision making about migration and asylum policy should involve displaced people and grassroots groups working on Europe’s borders. If you agree, please join us at one or both of our Raising Voices events.
🎬 Our first evening focuses on the theme “Women on the move”. After sharing our testimonies of women on the move, Europe Must Act and the Intereuropean Human Aid Association (IHA) are hosting a conversation to talk about the special situation of female refugees and asylum seekers. IHA is a grassroots organisation providing humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees across Europe. The talk is joined by Ιrida Women's Center, a Greek, grassroots organization that offers a safe community to more than 500 women from 37 countries in which they can feel empowered and support to heal their traumas and become agents of change for themselves, their families, and communities.
We also invite you to share your thoughts and impressions with us during the screening, and ask your questions in the Q&A.
