Migration and integration

Once the migrants have clarified their status they should receive help from the EU through integration programs. This programs could include 3 years of compulsory language lesson (language of the country they will be staying in) as well as help form professional to help them find a job and a place in society. Most of the times migrants have trouble fitting in the society because of language barrier and hate. Therefore providing them with language lessons and adequate help could reduce the tensions around migration, and greatly improve the migrants integration. Finally this will help promoting the values of the EU.

Conference of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia on Migration: Managing migration with a predictable, balanced and reliable system
  • datetime
  • 24 Rugsėjis 2021
    10:00 - 13:00
In September 2020, the European Commission published a comprehensive package of legislative proposals in the area of migration and asylum titled Pact on Migration and Asylum, which highlights the role of legal migration when it comes to creating tailor made partnerships with third countries. This would clear the way for cooperation on programmes that harmonise labour needs in accordance with the skills that are sought after in the labour market. At the same time, the development of legal pathways should contribute to reducing irregular migration, which often leads to unregistered work and exploitation of workers in the European Union. A more intense and comprehensive approach would provide for cooperation with partner countries, which would contribute to the strengthening of mutually beneficial international mobility. Also, as a good example from the Republic of Croatia, the new Aliens Act which entered into force at the beginning of this year made the Republic of Croatia one of the first ten Member States to also regulate the issue of the so-called digital nomads by providing the possibility of obtaining a one-year residence permit for foreign nationals who are working remotely. The interest of the Republic of Croatia is reflected in these new policies through the arrival of young and talented people, as well as increased digital services and strengthened industry. The Conference is designed for the general public, primarily young people, but also private companies that employ third-country nationals, and representatives of local authorities. The Conference will be held on a live streaming platform. How to register? We invite all participants who are interested in attending the Conference “MIGRATION: Managing migration with a predictable, balanced and reliable system” to register their attendance by 12 pm on 20 September 2021 to the following e-mail address: KoBE@mup.hr. The following information is required for registration: First and last name, e-mail address, occupation. Information on the institution or the employer is optional. A link for your participation in the conference will be sent to the e-mail address in your registration immediately prior to the start of the event. We look forward to you joining us!

EP4U Debate on EU Migration Policy, November 2, Sofia
  • datetime
  • 02 Lapkritis 2021
    17:00 - 19:00
Since the refugee crisis of the mid-2010s, migration into Europe has become the chief political hot-potato in the EU. While some see the influx of economic migrants and refugees as a threat, others advocate in favour of migration in the interests of the European Union both economically and socially. The flaws of the Dublin system having been laid bare by the crisis, migration has shot to the forefront of EU debate. National-level responses to such challenges vary from Member State to Member State. In Hungary, closed borders caused tensions with Croatia; in the United Kingdom, migration took center-stage in the Brexit debate, and in Bulgaria, since 2014 a fence has been erected along the Turkish border to reduce immigration. But is there a better way? Should Europe try to resolve the situation on a collective basis? And if so, what role should the European Union formally have in such a solution? In the framework of the EP4U project, TEPSA is teamed with Evelina Staykova from the Department of Political Sciences of New Bulgarian University to organise a University Debate on the EU’s Migration Policy. The event took place on November 2 at 17:00 CET (18:00 local time). Dr. Evelina Staykova is the Head of the Department of Political Sciences of the New Bulgarian University, and will moderate the discussion between Radan Kanev MEP, Ilin Stanev from the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, Dafinka Sydova from the National Security Agency, and Polina Hristova from the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross. The event will take place in Bulgarian. It will start with a presentation on EU Migration Policy “in a nutshell” before moving on to a panel discussion.

After a series of talks on the topic the students have carried out some research in their family history and local news and created a series of articles that were included in an e-magazine. Due to the plethora of material we had to create two magazines actually, one that presented their ideas on the mater of refugees in general and can be found at https://issuu.com/dpavlidou/docs/issuu and another one with personal stories that proved they found connections with the current crisis ad can be found at: https://issuu.com/dpavlidou/docs/my_family_tells_the_tale they have also created a physical space wheree they put up material and a digital poster based on a padlet where they gathered their ideas.
    Eftersyn: Fort Europa? Aflyst!
  • datetime
  • 24 Vasaris 2022
    17:00 - 19:00

    10:00 - 11:00

but what is war? for exemple today there is no war in any country. The last war ended in libia some months ago, the "syrian war" ended with ISIS, in the rest of the world ofc we have some violences, some conflicts but: HEY in the majority of the world we do have this! For exemple: The crime in Brazil, Colombia kill much more then "the sirian war", soooo Brazilians and colombians should be welcomed here but they're not, all of them are deported. The same for Ukranians, who lived a war some years ago (and deportations to their country didnt stop), and almost lived another.
So the conclusion is: there is just violence in the world and if we will accept people from one violent country we should accept for the others as well, but accept everybody is unpossible, so we just need to return everybody and avoid them to enter here

You really surprise me with your input I have to say. Saying there are no wars or conflicts. Please, can you base your arguments on real information rather than baseless comments?
Very lucky for you you haven't had to migrate because of a "conflict".
A family flees from its home country when they have been bombed, or are being prosecuted because of their ethnicity, or religion, or even ideology, or are hungry and fleeing climate change. Sometimes the direct responsibles to these conflicts are countries receiving these migratory waves.
It would seam that you are trying to defend a conqueror/colonial ideology. Am I wrong? Affecting other countries, militarily, economically, politically, environmentally, and not assuming responsibility for the repercussion of their acts.

how about our Western elite stop instigating wars (Libya, Syria) in the first place. Any refugees from wars not caused by us should be settled in surrounding nations which are culturally closer to them so it will be easier for them to return.
The "refugees" entering Europe aren't refugees, they're settlers. Everyone knows that these migrants have no intention of returning to their homelands.

It's only anecdotal evidence, but I have noticed in the high schools in my area that the children from migrants are more able to participate in after-school activities when their language is developed further. Children, of course, still go to school on a daily basis, which means that they automatically are taking part in language lessons. However, seeing the positive results in language learning in these children, I can imagine that their parents would benefit in the same way if they were given the opportunity to follow language lessons (ideally low-budget/free).

Well I already mentioned ( I think replying you) the history of the villejuif attack. The guy who made this attack received: Familiar reagrupment and a appartement to live with his family, he entered in a university with the aid of french governement and even got a paid to go to the university! French governement made EVERYTHING to integrate him, but anyway: everything failed.
But not just it, we can see that kids of migrants have problems with integrating as well, that's why we need to close the door to this crazy migration

But for the sake of discussion: First of all, you are using one example to generalize over a whole collective. And that is either manipulative, ignorant or lazy.
Second of all, although I wasn't acquainted with the case, from what I've read, this man you are referring to wasn't naturalized French, he was actually born in France, Les Lilas (Seine-Saint-Denis). Furthermore, he actually suffered from diagnosed schizophrenia, committed a couple of times.

Anyway, if you want other cases that were made by migrants with clarified status: The 2020 Dresden knife attack were made by a syrian refugee https://www.dw.com/en/germany-dresden-knife-attack-likely-motivated-by-islamic-extremism/a-55347395. This attack were another refugee stop many a car route, https://www.valeursactuelles.com/monde/allemagne-un-individu-provoque-plusieurs-accidents-sur-une-autoroute-au-cri-dallah-akbar-122744.
And I can list many others if you want too ;)

Again, you are generalizing by pointing out specific examples. You are trying to argue all the migrants from outside of Europe are Salafists, or have mental health issues, or both.
And that is empirically not true.
Anti-immigration ideology is very negative. It lacks of empathy and solidarity.
If Europe isn't able to further develop the spirit that drove it to integrate different countries, with different languages and cultures, and even religions, to the rest of the world, then it will inevitably, soon enough, find disadvantages to integration within the union, like North vs. South disputes.

Integration is a process that goes both ways, by the way. You say they can't integrate, and just as easily they can say you will not integrate them. And at some point, they'll also be right. If a French citizen radicalizes to the point of killing their neighbors, might not it be because they've always felt discriminated against, even after being French? By people like you maybe?

And the part 2 of my commentarie: In europe the south vs north disputes are about "how to do things", not about values. And integration is not a process in both ways! Just in one; they need to adapt to OUR culture, otherwise, why would we help them? To see our culture be killed? This is pure no sense.
And no, that guy were already radicalised, otherwise he would integrate and have a nice life. You're mixing concepts,

Not about values eh? Arguing people from the south are subsidized, or lazy isn't about "how to do things", but rather targeting culture.

I still feel you do not understand the concept behind integration. Anything that happens in the world, any chemical/physical reaction creates a chain reaction around itself affecting everything around it. This means that not only itself is affected by the circumstances provoking this reaction, but also changes effectively the reality surrounding it.

The culture isn't killed, it changes. And not only by immigration but also by gastronomy (The influence hamburgers have had in European societies may be an example of this), fashion, music, religion, ...
There are so many factors that affect culture throughout time.
It is inevitable, and also positive. Change it's in our nature.

I have to say I have not understood your last phrase. Can you elaborate maybe a little bit better?

No, Europe is not a colony. Immigration has been devastating. Public EU officials who support immigration should be named and the European people must be given a democratic opportunity to remove them from positions of power and influence.

We haven't got enough jobs and money for everyone in Europe ! Stop immigration ! However, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, Egypt, U.A.E. and Saudi Arabia have it ! These countries can therefore welcome migrants instead of funding hundreds of mosques in Europe !

"clarified their status"This means that their status was not clear. And a foreigner who lives in Europe and whose status is not clear is an illegal migrant. So an illegal migrant is an illegal migrant, he has nothing to do in Europe. Moreover, this proposal will encourage migrants to come even though the European labour market is not capable of absorbing all these new workers. I would have agreed if this proposal consisted in stopping the wars in Mali and Syria, for example, and at the same time helping them to create an environment favourable to economic and even ecological development, the only way to eradicate the misery of migrants!

Clarifying their status means understanding what reasons brought them to our continent, and if they can safely be integrated. Their status isn't illegal, but rather unresolved.
A proposal of actively ending wars, and promoting economic aid programs to promote growth, job creation, and educational, health, and technological development in counties of origin are also indeed very positive as well.

I wish! The problem is that many Europeans are too lazy to carry on physical jobs, so companies have no choice but to hire immigrants, while most of them would have rather hired European citizens. If Europeans unemployed would fill those jobs, then we would not need immigration, and immigrants might return home if they cannot find a job. But so far, this is not happening, and it may be more efficient to cut social welfare to Europeans than fighting immigration.

Actually, this is not true. In fact, migrants drive down wages and are an opportunity for bosses because they can exploit them quite easily (indeed, very few migrants know about the social rights in force in European countries). However, imagine that there are no migrants in Europe. This would mean that there would be less unemployment and no workers to exploit easily. So the bosses would have to increase the wages of their job offer and improve working conditions. The problem is that the bosses want absolutly to avoid this situation! This is what we have to fight, social precariousness! Immigration only creates it, that's what the French communists said in the 70s and they were right!
