Uncomplicated traveling with Covid certificate? What the digital EU provides us with proof
Event report available
Covid-19 put our travel habits upside down – but now there’s a solution! With the uniform introduction of the digital Covid certificate, we can prove throughout Europe that we have either been recovered, tested or vaccinated. The Heads of State or Government of the Member States of the European Union have agreed that the EU certificate will be widely used from 1 July. Additional travel restrictions should thus be a thing of the past and it should be possible to travel, visit and get to know Europe-wide again easily. Is this an opportunity for a European health policy? Cross-border and uncomplicated via app or analog – the basic idea was presented by the EU Commission in spring 2020, now it is becoming a reality. The EU faced major challenges – health policy regulates each Member State itself, and digitisation has progressed unevenly. How could these hurdles be overcome? Join us with the question of how the digital Covid certificate was achieved at record speed and discuss what this can mean for the future of health policy in the EU!
Event reportIn order to strengthen the European Union and health care, the Covid certificate has taken a first step towards harmonisation. Treaty amendments must not be excluded for an effective common approach, since only through uniform action can an advantage for citizens, including worldwide, be achieved. The participants worked with the experts that the Covid certificate is still strongly nationally shaped by each country itself. For the future, the participants call for even closer cooperation and coordination between the EU member countries. With the European Data Area for Health Data, a first step can be achieved, which is why the Member States should further expand it. With closer coordination, which takes into account both national and European interests, a European health union can become a reality.
