Debate: Does EU funding stand in the way of wild nature in your country?

Event report available
The costs of managing natural areas based on rewilding may be significantly lower than those of traditional agriculture-based nature care. But EU agricultural subsidies distort competition. It accrues only to those who exploit the land commercially. What are the opportunities, challenges and legs for rewilding in your country? How can EU support for agriculture be considered differently so that it creates better opportunities for wild nature? Debate with researcher Jesper Sølver Schou and Biolog Bo Levesen at Vejle Bibliotek on 18 May from 17.00 to 18.30. The event is organised by Democracy in Europe Information Union (DEO) in Denmark.

Event report
At the citizens’ hearing at Vejle Library on 18 May, we received many good ideas and wishes from citizens in relation to rewilding in the EU. Among other things, there were some people who had specific wishes for the EU. For example, with us from the citizens’ hearing, we got a request from someone who said: “I have my own agriculture and I would like to have more nature if I could find an arrangement that does not punish me in the end. But I can‘t find an aid scheme that SKAT doesn’t fall over. I don't want to be punished. In addition, there was a desire for 1) the creation of a nature fund which, as a private person, would have to buy some of for more nature, 2) to get more nature rather than new buildings, 3) to make it easier for private individuals to convert an area into wild nature (it is too difficult and we had someone who had investigated it, but dropped it, as it took too much to make wild nature), 4).
