Polyester isn't toxic.
Natural materials have a large carbon footprint. They require fresh water and land, contributing to the pressure on nature and resources around the world.
I doubt the production of a polyester or nylon t-shirt has a (much) bigger environmental footprint than a cotton one. Natural ones are less harmful if, after being thrown away, they find their way into the environment, but if waste is disposed of correctly and if the government recycles, stores or burns waste correctly, then polyester does not seem to be more harmful than natural materials.
Polyester is made from petrol, which is very very water intensive, very polluting and comes often from dictatorships. Cotton needs water, yes but it doesn't pollute it in a way than oil spilling. There are plants like hemp for example with a quite good foodprint.
US scientists estimate it to be 5.6 million tonnes since we first started wearing those polyester and nylon garments in a big way in the 1950s. (https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-54182646)

- Plastic never goes away
- Plastic spoils our groundwater
- Plastic poisons our food chain
- Plastic affects human health
83 percent of drinking water samples worldwide tested positive for microscopic plastic fibers.

Do you have any scientific proof for your doubts or is your comment based more on a feeling?
Do you have any scientific data for your assertions? You aren't quoting any figures that compare environmental costs of different materials.
- You asserted that polyester is toxic ("polyester and other toxic materials"). It's not.
- Yes, microplastics are in drinking water, in our food chain and in our bodies. But you have not provided any evidence that this causes us harm.
Do you have any evidence that polyester in our clothing causes actual harm, or is your entire suggestion based more on a feeling?
Why you argue when aparently you even didn't read the links?
There are scientic proofs, you are looking for.
Where are your scientic proofs for your opinion?
My interest in this issue is to make the environment safer for my children and I believe in the scientific articles about the harmfulness of polyester? What is your reason for defending it?
From the BBC article you link to: "We know that microplastics have been in the environment for decades, but we still don't know what an environmentally acceptable level of microplastic contamination might look like - in any environment. (...) Microplastic pollution is a fact of modern life - it is here to stay"
And: ""Natural fibres such as wool and cotton have been present in our rivers and seas in significant concentrations since the Industrial Revolution."
In other words, microscopic pieces of fibre result regardless of whether clothes are made from natural fibres or polyester. The latter stick around for longer, but so long as we use machines to wash clothes, microfibres will enter our drinking water and out bodies. There is nothing in the article which says polyester is toxic.
Meanwhile, the "Plastic pollution coalition", as a campaign group, makes lots of assertions based on very limited data. The source for their "Plastic affects human health" claim is this article: https://biodesign.asu.edu/news/perils-plastics-risks-human-health-and-environment#sthash.3x5G1YYS.dpuf
...which does not mention polyester. There, BPA and DEHP are listed as harmful, and the products they are associated with mentioned in the article are "polycarbonate plastics, such as those used for bottled water, food packaging and other item" and "notably medical devices including IV bags or tubing"
Importantly the article itself states "What are the overall effects of the plastics we unwittingly ingest? The literature Halden surveyed is ambiguous on this point, despite more than half a century of study."
In other words, your own sources do not state that polyester (or plastic) is toxic. Your suggestion is based on your feeling that plastic must be bad, but it is not grounded in facts.

Well yeah, of course the oil industry is toxic and harmful. And yes, plastics are made from oil. However, they are a side product, not the purpose, of oil extraction. So long as we (humanity) keep using refined petroleum products as fuel and energy source, there will also be side products that can be turned into plastics or bitumen / roads. Should those chemicals be turned straight into waste instead, rather than being turned into plastics and polyesters etc. (and then becoming waste)? What would be the benefit of that?
When we're wearing polyester fibres, we're essentially wearing (non-toxic) waste products of the petroleum industry. When we're wearing cotton and other agriculturally produced fibres, we're wearing a natural product that was purpose grown, using huge amounts of natural resources which could have been used to produce food instead. I don't see how the latter is inherently better for the environment than the former.
I still would like to see the proof for this statement "When we're wearing polyester fibres, we're essentially wearing (non-toxic) waste products of the petroleum industry."
I wonder why you write polyester is a wast product. The German Environmental Agency writes this:
"The production of man-made fibres consumes non-renewable resources, both as raw materials and for the generation of process heat. Approximately 0.8 per cent of the currently extracted crude oil is consumed annually as raw material."
LobbyControl wrotes an interesting article: "US lobbyist advises oil industry to use "dirty" lobbying methods. Document shows how public debate is to be influenced with covert PR campaigns." We have to take care, who could be the winner of a debate. I have nothing to win beside a better future.
