A train network for Europe

Avatar: %{name} Ryan Malleret 20/04/2021 15:09

Today, train development in Europe is limited and cross-border trains are rare. It is therefore necessary to create a pan-European train company (such as SNCF in France or DB in Germany) and to have a pan-European network of high-speed railway lines. The aim is to create a network of around a hundred cities in Europe (I have had 112 potential cities, of which 91 in the EU and 4 even cross-border), which would be connected to high-speed lines, both day and night, passenger train and freight. A one-size-fits-all network can travel freely in Europe with little pollution and is a strong alternative to air and even the car if it is done properly with the right services and prices. For freight, this network would significantly reduce truck distances and thus significantly reduce pollution. NB: for obvious reasons, islands are not included (except Sicily because they are close to the mainland)

Europe Direct Molise, Europe Direct Abruzzo, the Consorzio Punto europa, the European Documentation Centre of the University of Molise are organising an online meeting on the theme 'Conference on the Future of Europe. Environment and climate change’. The event takes advantage of the collaboration of Legambiente Molise and the Re-active Association. Participants are the teams of the Technical Institute ‘Marconi’, of the I.I.S. ‘L. Da Vinci — Fascetti’ of Pisa, of the Liceo Scientifico ‘M. Delfico’ of Teramo (Convitto Nazionale) and of the I.I.S. ‘G. Lombardo Radice’ of Bojano. The event is part of the series of initiatives planned by the organisers to celebrate the European Year of Youth and to encourage citizens’ participation in the work of the Conference on the Future of Europe. Each meeting, then, is characterised by an in-depth focus that will vary from time to time, taking into account the topics covered by the Conference. On this occasion, we are discussing environmental protection and combating climate change via the European Commission’s Green Deal. The event is held on the Meet platform at meet.google.com/ujr-ezej-pqt and live Facebook on the page of ZonaRossa Webtv and Europe Direct Molise. After the institutional greetings of the President of the Province of Campobasso, Francesco Roberti; of the Single Consorzio Punto Europa — Europe Direct Abruzzo, Filippo Lucci; by the head of the Unimol European Documentation Centre, Rosanna Cifolelli, the technical interventions followed by the debate with the students who will first present their projects. Carmela Basile, responsible for Europe Direct Molise, will speak with a report on ‘The Conference on the Future of Europe’; Paola Casalena (responsible for Europe Direct Abruzzo) will report on ‘The environmental policy of the European Union’; the director of Legambiente Molise, Giorgio Arcolesse, will talk about ‘PNRR, the last call for Europe’; finally, the president of the Scientific Committee of Legambiente Molise, Angelo Sanzò, spoke on ‘The global energy transition’. These are topics of extreme topicality, which animate daily discussions on the press and social media but that want to bring back even in moments of confrontation like these, encouraging the discussion and the active participation of the participants. Important moment is the presentation of projects by schools: class 4^ A of the Scientific High School ‘G. Lombardo — Rodice’ of Bojano (Project ‘But what air pulls’), class 3^C of the Scientific High School M. Delfico di Teramo (Project ‘The food of the future... the future of food’), class 3^ AI — I.T.S.T ‘Marconi’ of Campobasso with the I.I.S.S ‘Da Vinci — Fascetti’ of Pisa (Project Etwinning Future in your hands). At the end of the final debate to gather indications and ideas for reflection on the topics covered.
