Event report
The Youth Discussion Club of Russian Compatriots living in Austria held a virtual meeting on the role of youth in the future of Russian-European relations. More than 30 participants from Macedonia, Germany, Russia, France, Austria, Finland, Spain, Cyprus, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, and Serbia registered for the meeting. The participants supported their commitment to the principles of friendship between peoples and the pursuit of sustainable development goals. Especially Goals 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions) and 17 (partnerships for the Goals) were highlighted. Participants noted that strong institutions of civil society and local projects play an important role in building relations between Russia and the EU. Youth take a crucial place in combating stereotypes and prejudices on both sides. Culture, language, and common values are what unite us. Most Russian youth speak European languages, are interested in European culture, and share common values of stability at the state level, stability in the family, good education, medicine, and other social services. Similarly, European Union citizens are interested in the Russian language and culture. During the meeting we have developed a number of proposals, which in our opinion can help to strengthen the dialogue and good-neighborly relations between Russia and the European Union. Some participants could not join the virtual meeting and shared their ideas in written form.Related Ideas
