Covid-19 has yielded unrivalled challenges to the field of academic and scientific research, and more in general to education at all levels. After an unplanned stoppage, groundwork is now underway to investigate how the research ecosystem at European level will best recover and re-flourish in the years to come. In fact, both scientific and university research represent a fundamental source of European innovation and resilience.
