Perfoming Migration: Cultural Challenges in Europe
The recent refugee crisis and the ongoing aspects of immigration politics in Europe have posed a social and geopolitical challenge in Europe. Theatre has (re)-acted to this crisis through a series of performances in Germany, England, Italy, Greece etc. that place onstage the "crisis-scape" of immigration and form a dialectics of the strain of statelessness (faced by immigrants). These performances also propose deeper questions on the humanistic European identity that is reflected through the choices of the countries concerning the border policies and the legal ramifications of immigration. In "Performing Migration: Cultural Challenges in Europe", which is a part of the Conference on the Future of Europe, University Scholars pose seminal questions on the subject implemeting tools from Theatre Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Religious Studies etc. The inderdisciplinary conference event investigates the cultural connotations of the immigration crisis and looks into the future(s) of Europe in times of inclusiveness, integration and globalism.
