Youth and Europe: Let’s start with culture!
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, young people and young adults in Europe have been severely affected by the limitations of public life. In addition to the lack of participation and the retreat into one’s own filter bubble, there is a lack of creative and real discursive space. The German-French Cultural Council (DFKR) is convinced that the cultural participation of young people is an elementary social and discourse-political factor of a society. The Council considers that the ‘Weimar Triangle’, as a prime example of multilateral international understanding in the private and public spheres, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2021, is of particular importance. The DFKR sees the Conference on the Future of Europe, which was launched by the European Commission on 9 May 2021, as an essential space for discussing the role and perception of cultural participation and the cultural and creative industries for the post-crisis period. The conference is expected to develop guidelines for the future of Europe by spring 2022, with young Europeans playing a key role. Against this background, the Council would like to offer young creatives, cultural professionals and culturally interested people the opportunity to exchange directly with each other and with politicians, established people from the cultural field and experts from German-French-Polish cooperation. He also wants to make his own contribution to extracurricular and non-academic youth education. Concrete objectives of the Council are: • Enable the interdisciplinary dialogue, deepen and promote the creation of networks, • analyse the importance and role of culture in the context of current cross-social challenges from the perspective of youth, and determine the role of culture for the future of Europe and overcoming the Covid-19 crisis, • actively contributing to the Conference on the Future of Europe. Who is the event aimed at? For the event "Youth and Europe: At the beginning of September, the German-French Cultural Council publishes a call for tenders for about 18-20 people aged 18-30 with interest in German-French-Polish relations and engagement in the cultural sector. Particular attention will be paid to the diversity of group composition in the selection of adolescents and young adults. People with special needs (social, economic and geographical barriers, educational difficulties, cultural differences) will be included
