Brussels Economic Forum (BEF)
The Brussels Economic Forum (BEF) is the European Commission’s annual flagship economic event. The Forum pledges to bring forward new perspectives and inspiring conversations and this year, more than ever, it aims at discussing the current momentous opportunities for Europe with a line-up of high-level speakers and a broad audience. For more than 20 years, the Brussels Economic Forum has helped to identify key upcoming challenges and debate policy priorities for the European economy. This time, after over a year of unprecedented measures for the people and the economy, the BEF will look at ways to build the new economy we want. We hope to receive the broadest possible input from the audience to make sure the discussions encompass all points of view and bring forward innovative proposals. The theme of this year’s forum is “Making it happen: building the new economy we want”. Discussions will focus on "Post-COVID economic and social challenges", "A green and fair recovery: when the unprecedented becomes the precedent", "Strategic autonomy vs protectionism: how to walk the line" and a debate on the motion “For a sustainable post-COVID recovery, this forum believes we should replace GDP with an alternative well-being indicator”. Keynote addresses include Ursula von der Leyen (President of the European Commission), Angela Merkel (Federal Chancellor of Germany), Jacinda Ardern (Prime Minister of New Zealand) and Christine Lagarde (President of the European Central Bank). The audience will be able to interact by asking questions on sli.do and taking part in live polls.
