with Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, and Ana Mendes Godinho, Portuguese Minister for Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, What is the current social situation of young people? How are young people dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic? What are your prospects for the future? What do they expect from national governments and the European Union? Europe is considered to host some of the world’s most equal societies, with the highest standards of working conditions and broad social protection. Europeans value this unique social and economic model and expect it to bring opportunities for all. This is also the promise of the recently adopted European Pillar of Social Rights and the recently adopted Action Plan to make the Pillar a reality in people’s daily lives. A few days before the Porto Social Summit, the aim of this dialogue with citizens is to discuss with young people their questions and expectations regarding social Europe, such as obtaining access to equal opportunities, quality and inclusive education and training, developing the right skills to find a job, managing successful transitions in the labour market, social protection, the benefit of high-quality health care and life in an open and inclusive society. Before the Porto Social Summit, Portuguese young people are invited to participate, but of course all young people can follow this online debate and ask questions. The languages used will be English and Portuguese. The debate will be moderated by Cláudia Semedo. According to a recent Eurobarometer survey, 88 % of Europeans believe that a social Europe is important. Be it one of them or not yet convinced, join us for a lively debate on the future of social Europe.
