Event report
The context. In Bistrița-Năsăud county, the development gap between urban and rural areas is very high, with communities whose basic needs are not met and are below the poverty threshold in rural areas. In this context, an open dialogue on local needs is needed in order for the European Union to better understand the measures by which these communities can be supported. The purpose. Identify the real needs of rural communities and ideas for solutions to support them. The subject. The needs of disadvantaged rural communities. The structure. The option chosen for the form of the event was the “Participatory Workshop”, the activity being moderated by the representatives of the EUROPE DIRECT Bistrita-Năsăud Centre. They presented to participants the context and importance of dialogue on real local needs and their communication to the European institutions. The dialogue started with a presentation of the priorities of the European Commission, the European Green Deal and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, supported by Prof. Cornel Ban. Work continued with discussions on the future of local communities and how to put the opportunities offered by the European Union into practice, as well as on how to improve the support mechanisms offered by the European Union. Number and type. Demographic information about participants. 20 participants, aged 30 to 65, of which 5 are female and 15 male. The participants were formal and informal representatives of local communities. Main topics discussed: Local development needs. National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Main ideas suggested by participants: —The need to better understand the local needs of marginalised communities; General atmosphere and expected continuation: The general atmosphere was favorable for dialogue, with the moderator Cornel Ban enjoying the recognition and appreciation of the participants in his capacity as an expert in the sustainable development of communities. Some of the participants expressed dissatisfaction with the extent to which European instruments genuinely respond to the needs of disadvantaged rural areas, believing that innovative measures cannot be introduced in the context of citizens’ basic needs (food, infrastructure, health) not being met. Participants appreciated the topics discussed and committed to transmitting information on actual needs to participating experts.Related Ideas
It is essential that the European Union invests in improving the living conditions of older people in rural settings.
