The Conference on the Future of Europe should focus on the necessity of a Renewed Social Contract for Europe, to pave the way to a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable society. The improvement of living and working conditions in Europe and equality between men and women should be at the forefront. The recovery should be based on redistribution and upward convergence, quality job creation in all sectors and reinforced investments in public services and social protection, including ensuring the right to decent pensions. The respect of workers’ and trade union rights, social dialogue, stronger collective bargaining and democracy at work constitute the necessary basis for a fair recovery. The specific situation of mobile, cross-border and frontier workers must be taken fully into account. Europe must promote and defend free movement of persons as one of the four main freedoms enshrined in the TFEU.

Giacomo Di Federico Professor of Law of the European Union University of Bologna will intervene in this dialogue; Riccardo Mancuso Member of Riders Union Bologna; Jessica Abbuonandi Founder of Wise Mind Place and administrator of start-up Jab Srl; Antonio Rossa Secretary Workers of Communication, entertainment culture and sport CGIL Bologna; Francesca Cortimiglia Head of Human Resources at GELLIFY; Fausto Tinti Deputy Councillor for Labour Policies Metropolitan City of Bologna. concludes Adelaide Mozzi of the European Commission’s Italian Representation. A meeting of representatives of the 31 Public Participation Networks in Ireland to discuss how their experience of policy making at a local level, in particular informing the development of local economic plans and social plans can inform the discussion around developing a stronger and fairer economy, where social and environmental issues have equal priority with economic issues.
