Future Europe: Open or Closed? XXX. Economic Forum, Karpacz, Poland
Fourteen years have passed since the greatest enlargement of the European Union, but the question remains open as to whether this period has allowed the division between the old and new Member States to disappear. The search for a compromise between the demands for greater integration and the concept of a Europe of solidarity and sovereignty is still the region's greatest challenge, as is the question of where the boundaries of European integration lie: geographical, structural, social and economic.

Event report
Tibor Navracsics: In addition to the paperless Committee, the announcement of the Geopolitical Committee was the hit topic of Ursula von der Leyen’s newly inaugural president’s first press conference. The President of the Commission went to the African Union and the Vice-President responsible for promoting the European way of life and the Commissioner for the Interior went to Turkey to negotiate as soon as the first steps were taken to support the seriousness of the new efforts. The shift could not be overlooked: while the Juncker Commission wanted to be the engine of European domestic policy, the new Commission, led by von der Leyen, wanted to respond effectively to challenges from outside the Union.Share:
