Traditional pipelines from Russia to Western EU cross Ukraine, the Baltic countries, Poland and Belarus, which are supplied by Russia as well. Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 surpass these countries. This allows Russia to blackmail EU members Poland, Baltics and Ukraine, Belarus, by cutting off supplies. This happened already.

Outcomes: *The circumvention of EU members Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine, Belarus by Nord Stream 2 makes these countries which also depend on Russian gas vulnerable to Russian pressure, as already happened. *There is no valid economic case in favor of the pipeline and many ecological concerns, starting with maritime safety. *The pipeline is in stark contrast to the aims of EU's Energy Union. *The project is a bad example of unwarranted Russian interference in internal EU matters. * Nord Stream is a huge mistake and should have never been allowed to happen.Zgłoś niestosowną treść

In total disagreement with these headlines. Are we, Europeans, really going to let the US meddle in our internal affairs? Are we to let them bully us into falling in line with their commercial interests (here, LNG)?
When will we at last muster enough willpower to make a stand to China and to the USA across the board...?
I strongly support the conclusions of the event and the reasoning behind. It is good that the Europeans come together to discuss the impact of core infrastructure, like Nordstream 2, in truly holistic terms. Besides any commercial consideration, does it bring us together or does it separate us? Does it support us in reaching our climate goals or not? Does it strengthen our dialogue with Russia or not? Does it help a country like Russia, heavily depending on raw materials, to diversify its economy or not? On Nordstream 2 a lot of questions are still open. Europeans from North and South, from East and West should learn together identifying their needs. Alternatives, like turning to green energy produced in Africa, are also worth considering. The word to the citizens!
