Creating a Sustainable Future – Voices of Indigenous Women - High Level Panel (EDD21)
Organised by Oxfam IBIS, Indigenous peoples’ center for documentation, research and information, International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs, The Indigenous Peoples Major Group for Sustainable Development
Biodiversity and ecosystems can only be protected if local communities and CSOs are involved in the governance of resources, while their rights and wellbeing are protected. Inequality and climate change are interlinked with the increase of human rights violations in these communities.
This Panel will amplify the voices of indigenous women who have personally experienced the impact of climate change. Their fight for climate justice has endangered their lives and communities, but they will argue that indigenous peoples have an important role to play in the development of sustainable futures.
The European and national institutions are key partners in the protection of human rights. Panelists will discuss how to ensure this role in the framework of the Green Deal and EC external actions.
