EU Datathon is an annual open data competition organised by the Publications Office of the EU.

This year´s edition was launched on 7 February 2022. This brings a chance for open data enthusiasts and application developers from around the world to demonstrate the potential of open data, get international visibility for their innovative ideas and compete for their share of the total prize fund of EUR 200 000 and the Public Choice Award.

How can you participate? It´s simple! Propose an idea for an application that links and uses open datasets to address one of the four challenges.

What are the challenges?

Challenge 1: ‘The European Green Deal’
Challenge 2: ‘Transparency in public procurement’
Challenge 3: ‘EU public procurement opportunities for young people’
Challenge 4: ‘A Europe fit for the digital age’

Twenty-four teams, six teams per challenge, will be pre-selected. If you are among them, you will be invited to further work on your idea and present a full proposal by 26 June 2022. The jury will evaluate the proposals and select twelve finalist teams, three teams per challenge. If you are among them, you will be invited to develop your application and present it at the final event on 20 October 2022.
