Event report
On 6 August 2021, during the MCC Summer Festival this was one Francesco Giubilei, Rodrigo Ballester, Jorge González-Gallarza, Bence Bauer and Rafaelle Quintero-Godínez discussed the Future of Europe. During the discussion five main thoughts were discussed by the panelists sharing their personal views from their professional and academic perspective. Firstly, the question of sovereignty was raised, most especially how the EU encroaches on the competences of Member States and fails to respect the principle of attribution of competences (article 5 TEU). The panel also touched on the question of the growing gap between Central/Eastern European and Western European countries including in the field of migration and regarding values. The question of the elections in Germany was also touched upon in the discussion as well as the financial requirements to join the Euro were also up for a debate, not only through an economical but also a political angle. Lastly the non-European citizen panelist shed a light on the fact how great our life within the EU really is and how the opportunities are enormously larger for an EU citizen. That raises the noxious question of self-loathing, anti-western feelings among European elites and societies.Related Ideas
